In his closing remarks to the April 2022 general conference, President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced plans to build 17 new temples around the world. They will be built at the following locations:

President Nelson announced 100 new temples since becoming Church leader in 2018. With this latest announcement, the Church now has a total of 282 temples worldwide in operation, under construction or renovation, or announced. .

Wellington, New Zealand

Barcelona, ​​Spain

There are over 61,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ in Spain. It will be the second temple in Spain. the Madrid Spain Temple was dedicated in 1999. The first Spanish Latter-day Saint joined the Church around 1870. The Church was recognized by the Spanish government in 1968 when missionary work officially began in the country. Today the Church has about 135 congregations in Spain.

Birmingham, England

There are over 190,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ in the UK. A temple in Birmingham will be the third in Britain. the London Temple in England was the first (dedicated in 1958), followed by the Preston Temple in England (dedicated in 1998). Missionaries arrived in England in 1837, just seven years after the establishment of the Church. England is home to the Church’s oldest continuous congregation. Today the Church has 325 congregations in the UK.

Cuzco, Peru

The Cusco Peru Temple will be the fifth temple in Peru. The country is home to approximately 625,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 775 congregations. Cusco is in the southeastern part of the country and was the capital of the Inca Empire. The first missionaries arrived in the country in 1956. More than 32 million people live in Peru. Other temples in operation or under construction include the Temple of Arequipa in Peru, temple in lima peru, Temple of Trujillo in Peru and Lima Peru Temple of Los Olivos.

Maceio, Brazil

Maceió is the capital and largest city of the coastal state of Alagoas, Brazil. Many tourists visit this port city to see its natural attractions and enjoy its cultural diversity. There are 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in Brazil in more than 2,100 congregations. The Temple of Maceio will be the 15th temple announced for Brazil, with dedicated temples located in Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife and Sao Paulo. One temple (Rio de Janeiro) is completed and is preparing to be dedicated by Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on May 8, 2022. Three more temples are under construction in Belem, Brasilia and Salvador. Additional temples have been announced in Belo Horizonte, East of Sao Paulo and Vitoria.

Santos, Brazil

Santos is a port city in the southeast of the state of São Paulo. There are 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in Brazil in more than 2,100 congregations. The Santos Temple will be the 16th temple announced for Brazil, with dedicated temples located in Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife and Sao Paulo. Today, there are approximately 53,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 100 Tennessee congregations.

Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland is located along the south shore of Lake Erie and is about 20 miles from the first Church temple in Kirtland. The Kirkland Temple was dedicated in 1836 and the property is owned by the Community of Christ. This will be the second temple in the state. the Ohio Columbus Temple was dedicated in September 1999. There are more than 6,000 Latter-day Saints in approximately 125 congregations in Ohio.

Wichita, Kansas

Wichita is the most populous city in the state. Missionaries first taught Shawnee and Delaware natives in the Kansas area in 1831. Austin, TX

The Austin Texas Temple will be the seventh temple in the Lone Star State. There are more than 362,000 Latter-day Saints in Texas. Austin is the state capital of Texas. Missionary work began in Texas in 1843. In 1898 land was purchased that eventually became Kelsey’s East Texas Colony, consisting of 300 Church members.

Missoula, Montana

Montana, located in the western United States and bordering Canada, is home to more than 50,000 Latter-day Saints and more than 125 congregations. The Missoula Montana Temple will be the third temple in the state. The first, the Billings Montana Templewas inaugurated in November 1999. The Temple of Helena Montana was announced in April 2021.

Montpelier, Idaho

Montpelier, Idaho is a community of approximately 2,500 people located just north of Bear Lake along Idaho’s southeast border. The first pioneers of the Church settled in Idaho in 1855. Several Presidents of the Church hailed from Idaho, including Presidents Harold B. Lee, Ezra Taft Benson, and Howard W. Hunter. Other state temples are the Idaho Twin Falls Temple, Boise Idaho Temple, Burley Idaho Temple, Idaho Temple of Falls, Idaho Meridian Temple, Pocatello Temple in Idaho, Rexburg Temple in Idaho and Temple of Rexburg in northern Idaho.

Modesto, California

Modesto (modest in Spanish) is known for its rich agricultural history. This will be the 10th temple in California. This Central Valley town is the county seat and largest city in Stanislaus County. California has more than 755,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 1,200 congregations. Other state temples are the Feather River, Fresno, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Oakland, Red Lands, Sacramento, San Diego and Yorba Linda Temples.
