Anita Louise Marsh McSorley, 73 from Albuquerque, NM died Wednesday September 23, 2020 from pancreatic cancer in her home with her family. She was born on February 16, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Dale and Ruth Bowers Marsh. After moving with her family to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1961, she attended Santa Fe High School before attending the University of Eastern New Mexico at Portales, where she received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and home economics.
After moving to Ontario, California, she worked at the Ontario-Montclair School District producing instructional support materials and games for teachers to use in their classrooms. She was the den mother of her son’s Cub pack and was a member of the National Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges, officiating meets throughout the Southern California region, including volunteering for the Games. 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. In addition, she worked part-time as a writer and editor for the entertainment magazine Night and Day Guide where she published monthly feature articles.
In 1991, Anita returned to New Mexico to obtain her real estate license. Anita was passionate about quilting and a wide variety of artistic mediums including quilting, fabric dyeing and sculpting. Anita enjoyed teaching art techniques to others and participated in many guilds and art groups, welcoming other artists to her cabin in the Jemez Mountains for art retreats. She was very active with the New Mexico Quilters Association and designed the 1994 Balloon Fiesta raffle quilt; “Serenade Kokopelli.” His works in the fiber arts have won numerous local and national awards and have been published in books and magazines.
Antia was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2019.
Anita was predeceased by her parents and brother, James Marsh of Hobbs, New Mexico. She is survived by her two sons, Chris (Michelle) of San Jose, California and Andrew of Laguna Beach, California, her three grandchildren, Madeleine, Edward and Jude, and her aunt Carol Bowers Anderson and her husband George of Santa Monica, California.
