NMSU locker room unwavering despite start of season 1-4

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KTSM) – The State of New Mexico has started Season 1-4 and will face defending Mountain West Conference champions San Jose State on the road on Saturday night. The Aggies opened their doors as an underdog at 28 points and as frustration mounts among fans, the Aggies’ locker room is unwavering.

“The record can still show what it shows, but when it comes to the team it’s a different vibe,” said NMSU senior wide receiver Robert Downs III. “It sucks that we’re 1-4 here right now, but it doesn’t look like it. When we’re in training it’s fun, in games there haven’t been as many big games as we’ve seen in the last couple of years.

It was not the start of the season that NMSU had hoped for. The Aggies lost their two rivalry games (UTEP, New Mexico), they were competitive but ultimately lost three points to San Diego State and Hawaii respectively, and their only victory to show came against an FCS opponent. in the state of South Carolina.

Despite all that has gone wrong for the Aggies over the past year, head coach Doug Martin continues to sing the praises of his team.

“I’ve enjoyed coaching this team probably more than any other team we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Martin. “Just because of the character of our players, their hard work and their selflessness. They have been a great group to be around.

NMSU will face San Jose State and Nevada on the road ahead of their first week off, followed by the second meeting with Hawaii in Honolulu. The Aggies won’t return for a home game until Saturday, Nov.6 against Utah State.
