Grocery Chain Campaign Helps Feed the Poor »Albuquerque Journal

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A check for $ 46,373 was presented to the Roadrunner Food Bank by Albertsons Market and Market Street, both of which are owned by Texas-based United Supermarkets, according to a press release.

The money was raised in a July ledger donation campaign held at all United stores in New Mexico and presented to Roadrunner on Tuesday.

The donations will help provide more than 230,000 meals, said Mag Strittmatter, President and CEO of Roadrunner Food Bank.

“Thank you Albertsons Market and your customers,” she said. “Thank you for caring about the hungry and making a difference in so many lives in our state, including children, the elderly and families. “

light pointWith 1 in 4 children and 1 in 6 people facing hunger in New Mexico, the need for dietary supplements remains high, Strittmatter said.

Approximately 70,000 people across the state receive support each week from Roadrunner and its more than 500 member partners, including pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools and senior centers.
