Welcome to SCBWI-NM! We are part of the 18,000 member Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, with about 200 members in New Mexico and the El Paso area.

Our region produces a quarterly newsletter, which you can download from this web site.

Our e-lert mistress sends out weekly e-lerts about our programs, other local events, and industry information. This will also notify you when newsletters are available. We have monthly schmoozes in Albuquerque, the second Tuesday of each month, from 7-8:30. We meet at Alamosa Books in Albuquerque.  (Alamosa Books is located at 8810 Holly Ave. NE, Ste. D, at the NW corner of Paseo Del Norte and Ventura.  From Paseo del Norte, turn north onto Ventura and then left into the shopping plaza, where you will find Alamosa Books at the westernmost side of the plaza, next to Saxby's Coffee.)  Schmoozes feature short workshops or discussions, followed by social time. Workshop topics are announced through the e-lerts. (Typically, there is no schmooze scheduled for either April or December.) We also have a peer critique meeting on the third Saturday of the month, from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Erna Ferguson Library community room (3700 San Mateo NE). Illustrators meet for critiques and schmoozes the second Saturday of each month, often at the Border's bookstore cafe at Academy and Wyoming in Albuquerque, with special events on other days. Click on the Contacts button to the left to e-mail Illustrator Saturdays Coordinator for more information.

Farmington-area schmoozes are held the third Saturday of the month at 1 pm at the Farmington Library. We do not currently have area representatives for Santa Fe, El Paso or the southern part of New Mexico. If you are interested in organizing a monthly social event or critique group there or in another unrepresented area, contact the Regional Advisor (Contacts button to the left).

The Los Alamos Writers Group meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month (except Thanksgiving and Christmas week) from 7-8:30 p.m. at Daylight Delights/LA Sub shop in Los Alamos on Central Ave. It's not officially a SCBWI group, but many SCBWI members attend.

Our 2010 Spring Conference will be April 10 in Albuquerque, at the UNM SUB. The program includes two editors, an agent and art director discussing their lists and giving first pages critiques, then intensive afternoon breakout sessions with those speakers.
